Chess clock

Chess clocks were introduced in 1861. At first the players used an hourglass but in 1881 they created the first 2-player chesstimer. Currently 20 moves in an hour is a normal tempo for an official chessgame. Since the invention of the digital game timer there are a lot of other options. There are even recent tournaments with 2 minutes per player per game.

A chess clock can make your home game more enjoyable. A good tempo for a casual game at home is about 15 to 30 minutes for each player. Depending on your personal preference you can pick a digital game timer or an analog mechanical timer. Read more ...
